For almost 10 years, Adina Hauser has been volunteering with Eli’s Place. This year, that involvement feels especially meaningful as Eli’s Place prepares to begin welcoming young adult Guests.

A Different Kind of Recovery
Eli’s Place is creating a program for young adults living with serious mental illness at a working farm north of Guelph, Ontario, where recovery will be part of everyday life. Clinical care is woven together with meaningful work and a community living, helping young adults build the foundations for sustainable life beyond their time at Eli’s Place.

Walking Together
As social workers and longtime advocates for mental health and substance abuse therapy, Adina and her husband, Andy, understand how important it is for young people to have support that extends beyond clinical treatment. They were drawn to Eli’s Place because of its focus on creating a community where young adults can collaboratively work toward recovery with the support of others around them.
For Adina and her family, the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon has become one way to turn that commitment into action. They give active support and raise awareness and funds for Eli’s Place at the same time.
“Coming together with friends and engaging in physical activity are all examples of wellness,” Adina says — “so there is no better place to combine our advocacy with sport than walking together as a group to raise awareness for Eli’s Place and mental health recovery in general.”

Why We Walk
After participating for many years, the TCS Run has become something Adina and her family look forward to each year. This year, with Eli’s Place approaching opening its doors, they’re walking with an added sense of anticipation.
“We have been participating in this walk for many years now, and we look forward to the opportunity every year!”
You can express your support for Adina, Andy, and others who are stepping up by making a donation to a team representing Eli’s Place at the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Your support will help bring Eli’s Place closer to opening its doors and creating a place where young adults can build a life beyond mental illness.
